afa was contracted to carry out the stability and earthmoving and designs for this shopping centre project of nearly 50,000sqm. This undertaking has four floors; the first and fourth floors are used as a car park and the floors between have the commercial areas. This area has a nine rooms cinema complex.
The structure was entirely made of” in situ” reinforced concrete, using a flat slab solution. The slab, 24 cm thick with salient columns heads, spanned onto columns spaced about 8 metres. The columns were supported on bored piles up to 17 metres long. Due to the differing spatial demands of the shopping and parking areas, the column grid was irregular in many areas.
In the area of the cinema complex the slabs have a thickness superior to carry the higher loads whilst the roof structure had spans of 16 metres. This structure was constructed from ribbed prestressed prefabricated slabs supported peripherally with reinforced concrete beams.
A special feature of this shopping centre is the number of large skylights on the roof, some of them with large dimensions and complex geometry that demanded a great rigor in the design of the supporting steel structure for these skylights.
