New "Meditel" Headquarters in Marrocos

The proposed solution for the new corporative headquarters of Méditel in Casablanca did not result from a strictly structural analysis, but from an analysis that concerns in a global way the problems of the building's general project, with particular emphasis on the following subjects:
-Façade's aesthetic conditionings,
-Energy and illumination control conditionings, from introduction of the perimetrical piers ,
-Ground floor functional conditionings, it is pretended to have the fewer possible vertical support elements, accomplished with the insertion of central support elements.
The structural solution is different for both underground floors and elevated floors. Therefore a peripheral contention by Berlim walls has been considered, with massive flagstones of 30 cm thick in reinforced concrete, directly supported on a rectangular mesh of piers with 7,5m x 5,5m and on the vertical elements of the stairs and elevators shaft.
On the floors situated above ground, the structural concept resulted in a combination of white concrete piers, perimetrical to the entire building, that further than its supporting function, define the façade of the building and also make the natural light control of the building's interior, creating a shadowing curtain. The form resulting from the piers exterior mould generates a set of reliefs that grant the building a unique shape from the aesthetic point of view.
Besides the perimetrical piers, there are the stairs and elevators shafts that support a mixed box-beam, situated on the building's last flagstone, from where a set of steel beams part, that will materialize the intermediate supports from each flagstone, from the 10th floor to the 2nd. This allows to respect the architectonical concept of having exclusively perimetrical vertical elements and the nucleus on the entrance floor, leaving all of the remaining space free for several uses.
The transition beams of reinforced concrete are enhanced, between the basements and the structure above ground. This beams receive the weight of the peripheral piers transmitting them to the piers of the underground levels.
