The planned building, with a total area of 9.450 square metres, consists of two areas with distinct functions, and also structurally independent - the AMI Headquarters building hosts administrative and social areas, and a nursery school outside.
The Engineering solution enabled a particularly bold architectural concept, which includes three Wings solidary between them (forming a central square where the nursery school is located). One of the Wings is a "console" with around 30m span, a very original solution for the facades.
One functional characteristic of the building that limited the Engineering is the use of the roof as a visitable space of current use, which, besides the obvious consideration of the corresponding loads on the structure, meant the study of appropriate isolation solutions, and limited the implementation flexibility of the equipments and technical infrastructure of the pipes.
It was given special attention and coordination in the wise distribution of structural mesh (in which the good working relatively to the seismic activity was guaranteed) and to the design of the main water supply systems, drainage and air conditioning (with special environmental concerns of energy efficiency).
