Rehabilitation and Upgrading of D. Goimil Bridge

The project for rehabilitation and upgrading of D. Goimil Bridge, was based on respect for the archeological and historical data of the same, for what was done the archaeological-historical framework of the bridge trying to value the original elements and preserved the same, in dialogue with all areas and technicians involved.
It is a bridge Romanesque, which is classified as a Public Interest.
The Project defined a set of interventions for the recovery of the bridge, returning its physical and structural characteristics that we think are the originals. In accordance with the decision taken during the intervention phase of rehabilitation, traffic is currently allowed only for pedestrians and bicycles (pedestrian and bicycle paths).
The Bridge Goimil have been built in the centuries XIII / XIV and was part of the course Romanesque / Medieval Medieval documentation as referenced in Via Veteris - "Old Road". This path was initiated near the River Douro, the area of Arrábida, and coming from Lordelo by Couto and Cedofeita, passed by Cruzeiro in Santiago de Custóias, crossed the Rio Leça this site and was directed into the estuary of the River Ave, through Rubras Stones, Aveleda, and Modivas Vairão.
The medieval bridge Goimil is a work in masonry structure with sturdy granite, with a single arc in warhead. The bridge consists of narrow and long staves, from extrados irregular. The meetings are of granite and brick parapet (subsequent to initial) in granite stone. The pavement of regular slabs is covered by recent interventions in asphalt, concrete and granite cubes.
