The school Frei Gonçalo de Azevedo was built in 1989, according to a typology pavilion, current dated for schools this season. The existing premises of the Primary and Secondary School comprises a total area of 18968.17 m2 plot with a built area of 9384 m2.
The existing school complex consists of seven pavilions, with six classrooms, administrative offices and departments and a pavilion where teachers are concentrated recreational areas for students living and dining room from the various pavilions are connected by a structure outside traffic materialized by a system flaps. The existing building is mainly based on buildings of two floors, with the exception of the cafeteria building comprising only one floor. The walls are reinforced concrete without insulation and asbestos cement sheets, including the structure of movement outside. Classrooms, in general, are not equipped with heating or cooling. The proposals in the new project include the rehabilitation of six of the seven existing modular buildings and the demolition of other buildings full. This project aims to rehabilitate the existing built heritage (significantly improving its infrastructural conditions), and introducing new program areas that can provide an effective modernization within the school environment at the organizational level and functional area (as is the case of multi-purpose rooms , libraries and resource centers, work rooms free for teachers and students, departmental spaces, etc). It is yet to reclassify all exterior spaces, which are particularly important since they are the same meeting spaces and recreation facilities of the School.
