The proposed intervention for the Oporto Tram Museum respects the existing heritage, extolling the architectural and historic qualities that define it. It is intended to highlight the buildings original character, adopting an approach of consolidation of the main architectural elements that compose it, revitalizing its main compartments and matching them to a new programmatic distribution. Occasionally, and to respond to the new program, fall to introduce new elements in building a new identity beyond the historical connotation that inevitably falls.
The built set consists essentially of:
- "Spaceship 1", substation building, is in Level 0 technical spaces, with the focus of power plant equipment and space for maintenance and storage. The first floor is a large space (105x16, 5), with a ceiling height of 11 m to the bottom chord of trusses and about 16 m to the top of coverage in the area of ??skylights.
- "Spaceship 2" ship museum presents the history of Porto Tram. This structural solution has a nature similar to the ship 1 with a cover supported by metal truss spaced equally from 4.60 m, while the lower flange of the lower zone to 9.50 m high. These trusses do not have an aesthetic as "worked" as the nature of the substation - a ship.
- The "Starship 3 and 4" are currently reserved for repairers transport. The structure of these two vessels characterized by laterally supported metal truss in masonry walls, and in that the separating line in common metallic pillars.
The project is the overhaul of all Ships, with the addition of a floating volumes in hangars as well as treatment Globality in the office building.
The insertion of a new platform in the "Ship 1", which extends to the outside, embodies the Museums new reception and emphasizes the connection of the building with the river.
