The structural concept was developed based on the following premises:
I.Cultural and archaeology heritage – the new construction should respect and preserve the historical space of Roman Emona.
II.Feasibility, cost and construction time the structural concept should seek both feasible solutions with currently used technologies in the region. The pre-fabricated construction solutions should be prefered to the “in-situ” solutions, seeking both regular geometry and uniform spacing in order to turn pre-casting and assembly easier and faster.
III.Flexibility – the structural solution should be as flexible as possible, allowing the integration of all installations, providing a easy access to maintenance and allowing programmatic spaces to easily fit and become convertible.
In order to minimize the impact of the structural elements and foundations on the Roman Emona, the project propose a transference structure on the level 0. This structure is composed by a double composite grid with a 1000mm of height, allowing a uniform transference of the vertical loads to the interior micropiles foundations and to the peripheric foundations. The layout of the micropiles was studied in order to minimize the impact on the archeological heritage.
The building is covered by a steel modular facade. The geometry was designed to respect a regular spacing and to turn pre-casting and assembly easier.
