The structure of the metal roof of the courtyard of the house of S. Sebastião, located in Vila do Conde, embodied in a set consisting of three-dimensional triangular glass panels based on a triangular mesh of metallic profiles of the tubular section.The proposed structural solution consists in a double curvature dome, made by polygonal arcs inscribed in second degree parables.
The arches are held with metallic tubular profiles of rectangular section, type HRH with dimensions of 80 50 mm2 with a thickness of 4 mm or 6. The "ring" of the basic three-dimensional structure is realized with metallic tubular profiles of rectangular section,type RHS with dimensions of 120 80 6.3 mm3.The assembly is "self-balanced" requiring only vertical supports to meet the gravity actions applied.
In plant, the contour of the cover is a trapezoid, with two sides being supported on masonry walls of stone and the other two supported on metal profiles in I with 50 and 70cm height, due to the gap between the walls.The metal profiles are connected to the existing masonry walls through rods sealed with sufficient length to raise the volume necessary to the stability of wall covering for the ascending action of the wind.
