Detalhes

The Water Museum is a building located on the Urban Park of the Diz River, Guarda. It will not have the traditional image of a building in the shape of a "Museum", but rather of a route associated with both the Park and the Water. It will have various water games on its interior and exterior, whose implantation is part of the content of the expositive circuit.

To reconcile the architecture [which divided the Museum into 4 distinct areas, namely, the underground Building consisting of the water route and the projection room, support Building, tubular Bridge (access to the underground building) and Tunnel between the two buildings] with the engineering proved once again to be a challenge.

The most significant effect consists of a water jet established by an internal circuit, which pumps the water from the inside to the outside of the building and returning it to the interior through a "window" opened to the exterior, sculptured on the structure of the construction.

Its localisation in a low lying area with a high ground-water level and high acid water levels, amongst others, were some of the important constraints found during the preparation of this project.

The main Body, which is underground and established beneath an alluvial deposit, imposed the solution of a waterproofed building against hydrostatic impulses, seeing that the solution for continuous drainage is unviable.

Drainage of small flows arising from seepage that inevitably occur in reinforced concrete structures was anticipated for the interior. Its construction will led to the adoption of special measures of containment such as special provisional containment or fairly steep slopes in cut section with continuous pumping of affluent waters to the base of the excavation.

The framing and the theme of the entire construction required that the solution for environment treatment would have water as its main element and this element was resorted to as an energetic and heat exchange source, processed by a hot water/water pump and by radiant water floors.
