The industrial complex at Setúbal, located at the Mitrena peninsula, in the Sado local council, is a result of the merger between Portucel – Empresa Produtora de Pasta e Papel, S.A. and Inapa, being one of the most important in southern Europe, by its dimension and by the technological superiority  which characterises it. 

Portucel starts its operation at Setúbal, with PM1 (Paper Machine 1) and PM2 (Paper Machine 2) actively installed and operating at Figueira da Foz, with a PM3 (Paper Machine3) and continued its expansion with PM4, a challenge to the structural response for the specific functionalities of this type of factory.

The new unit is located at the eastern area of the industrial complex, next to the existing pulp production unit and the structural project shall refer to Paper machine building and adjoining buildings, located between -1 and 46 of the new paper production unit (PM4). Apart from the paper production building, silos, additive area, transformer area, vacuum pumps area, control rooms and maintenance areas were subjected to this study.
