The Municipal Swimming Pools, is part of the Sports Complex, will allow competitive swimming and diving events to be staged at international level. The building is built alongside the new 5000 seat sports hall.

There are two pools, one a 50m 8 lane racing pool complying with Olympic standards, and the other a diving pool. The diving pool has 3, 5 and 10 m boards which are housed under a specially raised section of the roof. Spectators for the events are seated along one side of the pools.

There is also a therapy pool next to the diving pool and the administrative offices are above.
All the water treatment and air handling plant are housed in basement areas that have lorry access for the installation and removal of large items of plant.

All the structures are of reinforced concrete including the main roof that spans 55 m across the main space. This roof has edge stiffened barrel vaults supported on V-shaped columns. There is a continuous roof light between each vault.
