Details

The aim of the Herdade do Barrocal Tourist Complex was to recover a Monte Alentejano and transform it into a 5-star Hotel. Three types of construction were part of this project, the old residential building, the mill and workshops building and the agricultural dependencies.

The complexity of structural interventions in old buildings came from the objective of providing new buildings with current levels of safety, functionality and comfort, while maintaining the “glamour” of the existing buildings. Most interventions are characterized by light structures, having the design team opted for steel as the structural material. This type of structures integrates well with old constructions, reducing the level of stress to be induced on existing structural elements, also requiring less intrusive means during the construction phase.

The water supply solution consists of an integrated self-supply system. This system includes the execution of artesian wells, the construction of a water reservoir, as well as the associated water treatment (WTP) and pumping systems.

The intervention of the mechanical engineering specialty covered an additional aspect: that of the energy optimization of the buildings' surroundings, which greatly contributes to the design of energy-efficient ambient treatment systems.
