Details

The Almada-Carvalhais Palace was built in the mid-16th century, next to the then Boavista beach. A blind wall was erected on the beach from which a tower was built, in the south/west corner, higher than the rest of the construction. The palace, as a whole, has an approximately square shape with about 30m on a side and is developed in 4 wings arranged in the outline of a central cloister, measuring about 10m by 12.5m, whose facades end in vaults supported by elegant pilasters.

The intervention planned considers as priorities the maintenance of the main elements of the original construction and subsequent alterations introduced in the mid-17th century, after the earthquake of 1755, which resulted in the current configuration of the façades. The elements to be maintained include the walls of the cloisters, the vaults of the tunnel accessing the street, the stone masonry main walls, the walls of the façades and the wooden floors (whenever possible).

To achieve the program of this 5-star hotel a new building on the palace grounds (5,500m2) will be built. The construction of an L-shaped building is proposed, thus giving rise to a new exterior patio with a peripheral water mirror. This new building will have a basement for car parking, which will be accessed directly through the current ramp, 4 floors for the installation of hotel rooms and a roof where a swimming pool and respective support bar will be installed.
