The Photo Elysée et MUDAC Building, located in Lausanne (Switzerland), with engineering projects developed by AFAconsult, has received a Special Mention at the fib Awards 2026 – fib Awards for Outstanding Concrete Structures, one of the most prestigious international distinctions in the field of concrete structural engineering.
Part of the new Plateforme 10 cultural district, the building housing both MUDAC and the Photo Elysée stands out for its striking architectural concept, developed by Aires Mateus, which required close collaboration between architecture and engineering from the earliest stages of the project.
The reinforced concrete cubic volume, resting on only three structural supports, made it possible to create a perception of lightness and separation between volumes. This architectural intent expresses the coexistence of two museums within the building, each with contrasting exhibition requirements, and represented the project’s greatest structural challenge.
The distinction awarded by the fib Awards 2026 recognises the project’s technical excellence and innovative approach, reinforcing AFAconsult’s position as an international reference in the development of complex structural engineering solutions.
