Details
The new building for the headquarters of Banco de Cabo Verde has an implantation area of 60m x 77m and is composed of three bodies. The main body has a basement, where the vault and the car park are located, and six floors for offices. The remaining two single storeys are intended for social areas such as the auditorium, museum, library and dining area.
Great importance was given to the study of the energy-environmental performance of the building, given that the climate in Cape Verde is characterised by high temperatures and humidity levels. In order to provide acceptable working conditions, it was essential to use mechanical air conditioning systems to reduce temperature and especially humidity. The solutions found consisted of mechanical ventilation to control temperature and humidity, the central atrium as an extraction plenum, fans that promote air agitation and static equipment (radiant surfaces that favour natural convection).
Given the lack of water on the islands, it is planned to drain all rainwater into storage tanks. There will be separate tanks for fire fighting, irrigation and water supply. As far as the water supply is concerned, this water will be used to flush toilets.
Much of the structure is in "plain white" concrete.
